Hibiscus arborescens is a deciduous shrub or small tree with a height of 1~3m. The branches are denser and have stellate hairs. The leaves are alternate, broad-ovate or round-ovate, palmate 3~5 lobed, apex or acuminate, with stellate villi on both sides. Hibiscus hibiscus flowers are larger, solitary in the leaf axils of the branches, with red, pink, white and other colors. They have single or double petals (Hibiscus hibiscus is double). The flowering period is August to October. Capsules are oblate and mature in October to November.
