Small deciduous tree or shrub with medulla in the center of the stem. Odd-numbered pinnate compound leaves alternate, winged shafts, and insect galls often grow here. There are 7-13 oblong and oval leaflets with thick serrations on the edges and dense gray-brown hairs on the back of the leaves; yellow and white flowers bloom in autumn. The panicles are terminal; orange-red small drupes with short hairs.
